How to Fix an Inaccurate Phone Location

A map or website places the phone far from its actual location.

Before you begin

Start with reversible settings checks. Keep your device supported and powered safely. Do not force connectors, open sealed batteries or try high-voltage repair steps.

How to troubleshoot the problem

  1. 01

    Enable precise location where appropriate

Review device location settings and browser permission; choose precision only if you want it.

  2. 02

    Move to an open area

Buildings and indoor environments can reduce satellite reception.

  3. 03

Check airplane mode and network settings

Depending on your device, Wi-Fi and cellular signals can help estimate position.

  4. 04

    Compare a trusted maps application

This helps distinguish browser permissions from general location service issues.

  5. 05

    Restart location services

Toggle location permission, reload, and compare the reported accuracy estimate.

RETEST / VERIFY

Check the result.

Check position and uncertainty across multiple readings. GPS accuracy is never guaranteed by the browser.

When to get professional help

If the same problem occurs in multiple compatible applications or devices after safe checks, follow the manufacturer's exact support instructions or ask a qualified repair professional. A browser test cannot prove every hardware component is healthy.
