How to Fix Color Banding on a Monitor

Smooth gradients show sudden visible stripes or uneven transitions.

Before you begin

Start with reversible settings checks. Keep your device supported and powered safely. Do not force connectors, open sealed batteries or try high-voltage repair steps.

How to troubleshoot the problem

  1. 01

    Check a different gradient sample

Compare several images to rule out a compressed source graphic.

  2. 02

    Review display color-depth settings

If available, confirm the output is using an appropriate color depth and signal mode.

  3. 03

    Disable extreme enhancement modes

Aggressive contrast or vivid modes can exaggerate banding.

  4. 04

    Compare another browser or display

Browser color pipelines and display panels can differ.

  5. 05

    Review official graphics driver settings

Use the GPU maker’s documented options rather than unknown tweak tools.

RETEST / VERIFY

Check the result.

Run the smooth gradient test again and evaluate whether the transitions appear less stepped.

When to get professional help

If the same problem occurs in multiple compatible applications or devices after safe checks, follow the manufacturer's exact support instructions or ask a qualified repair professional. A browser test cannot prove every hardware component is healthy.
