How to Fix a Mouse Cursor That Keeps Jumping

The pointer jumps or moves unevenly during normal use.

Before you begin

Start with reversible settings checks. Keep your device supported and powered safely. Do not force connectors, open sealed batteries or try high-voltage repair steps.

How to troubleshoot the problem

  1. 01

    Use a suitable mouse surface

Test on a plain matte mousepad rather than reflective or transparent glass.

  2. 02

    Clean the sensor opening

Use gentle exterior cleaning per the manufacturer instructions.

  3. 03

    Check wireless power and interference

Move the receiver close and away from crowded USB hubs or radio devices.

  4. 04

    Adjust pointer acceleration and sensitivity

Compare behavior with pointer-enhancement settings off and a moderate speed.

  5. 05

    Compare another device

Try the mouse on another computer or try a different mouse on the same computer.

RETEST / VERIFY

Check the result.

Trace smooth circles in the movement tester. The trace shows browser-visible movement, not raw sensor telemetry.

When to get professional help

If the same problem occurs in multiple compatible applications or devices after safe checks, follow the manufacturer's exact support instructions or ask a qualified repair professional. A browser test cannot prove every hardware component is healthy.
