How to Fix a Blurry Webcam Image

A camera preview works but looks soft, out of focus or unusually low resolution.

Before you begin

Start with reversible settings checks. Keep your device supported and powered safely. Do not force connectors, open sealed batteries or try high-voltage repair steps.

How to troubleshoot the problem

  1. 01

    Clean the camera lens gently

Use a soft dry microfiber cloth, avoiding sprays on the lens opening.

  2. 02

    Improve lighting

Face a window or diffused light; dim lighting often forces noise reduction and softer images.

  3. 03

    Compare actual stream dimensions

Run the resolution test to see what the browser currently receives.

  4. 04

    Review video-app quality settings

Some apps reduce capture quality to conserve bandwidth or CPU.

  5. 05

    Test across applications

Compare the browser preview with another trusted camera application before assuming a sensor fault.

RETEST / VERIFY

Check the result.

Check whether image sharpness improves under good lighting; detected resolution alone does not guarantee sharpness.

When to get professional help

If the same problem occurs in multiple compatible applications or devices after safe checks, follow the manufacturer's exact support instructions or ask a qualified repair professional. A browser test cannot prove every hardware component is healthy.
