How to Check a Monitor for Dead or Stuck Pixels

Use multiple solid colors to spot persistently dark or colored pixels.

Before you begin

Start with reversible settings checks. Keep your device supported and powered safely. Do not force connectors, open sealed batteries or try high-voltage repair steps.

Step-by-step testing instructions

  1. 01

    Clean the screen

Wipe gently with an appropriate dry cloth so specks do not mimic pixel defects.

  2. 02

    Set normal brightness

Avoid maximum brightness if uncomfortable and use typical viewing distance.

  3. 03

    Cycle black and white

Look for bright points on black and dark points on white.

  4. 04

    Cycle red, green and blue

Watch for an area that fails to change color appropriately.

  5. 05

    Check the manufacturer policy

Document defects for warranty claims and avoid pressure-based fixes.

RETEST / VERIFY

Check the result.

A repeated fixed point across all images is worth documenting, but this does not specify repair eligibility.

When to get professional help

If the same problem occurs in multiple compatible applications or devices after safe checks, follow the manufacturer's exact support instructions or ask a qualified repair professional. A browser test cannot prove every hardware component is healthy.
